Your future role
This is a varied and challenging role suited to a self‑motivated individual who can work effectively both independently and as part of a team. The successful applicant will be responsible for carrying out routine and unplanned tyre turning, along with routine maintenance, repairs and fault‑finding activities on the Wheel Lathe for vehicles across the 22X platform and other fleets as required. The role also requires flexibility to work shifts, including days, nights and weekends.
We’ll look to you for:
Maintenance:
●Carry out routine and unplanned tyre turning activities, routine maintenance, repairs and fault-finding work on the Wheel Lathe for vehicles across 22X platform and other fleets as required
●Adhere to and work within Quality Systems to the current applicable standards.
●Operation and Maintenance of the Wheel lathe including fault finding and PPM’s.
●Completing TASS updates as required.
●Carry out wheel inspections in line with the approved vehicle maintenance instruction
●Ensure that unresolved problems with processes, tooling and documentation and lathe performance are reviewed, investigated and reported as required.
●Support external technicians with pre planned maintenance.
●Work as part of a team, complete or assist in any of the team's activities to ensure work is completed on time and to specification.
●Carry out work in an efficient safe manner providing a Quality product meeting customer, company and legislative standards.
●Maintain and improve the working environment in line with housekeeping and 5s policies, PPM policies and continuous improvement plans.
●Maintain appropriate records and documentation
●Apply and maintain LEAN initiatives.
Reporting:
●Accurately report status of operations, complete Work Checklists and Work Orders with the required level of detail including completion time, detailed comments
●Ensuring tracking sheets are updated in accordance with production management requirements.
●Provide clear reports stating reasons and mitigation for under/over absorption of labour hours.
●Reporting any quality, continuous improvements, or EHS related issues though leadership routes and the appropriate reporting tools.
●Reporting faults or issues with the Wheel Lathe to the Facilities Management team
Continuous Improvement:
●Maximising the time in the wheel lathe to ensure targets are met
●Make suggestions and recommendations for productivity improvements working with the team leaders/managers and supporting functions (Industrial, Engineering, Materials, Projects)
●Maintain 5S good housekeeping of all related work areas in accordance with set standards.
●Process issues are identified and accurately reported.
Training/Agility:
●Be capable of being re-trained in other activities/skills as required by the Management Team in order to support the Wheel Lathe as required.
●Ensure that you are competent to carry out required duties.
Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS):
●Understand and abide to safety notices, rules and regulations and follow safe working practices compliant with local standards.
●Comply with all EHS protection and Alston Zero Deviation Plan (AZDP) measures.
●Responsible for Health, Safety and Environmental issues in your working environment
●Advise of any defects/deficiencies in equipment/arrangements that could compromise the Health and Safety of themselves and others.
●Co-operate with management in all matters relating to Health and Safety.

- Technical skills/proven knowledge and experience of Wheel Lathe Operation
- Time served apprenticeship or equivalent with associated technical qualifications (ONC/HNC/City & Guilds) or recognized equivalent
- Experience of working to procedures, work instructions and vehicle maintenance instructions
- Competent driving 22X vehicles / PICCT (train/work lead) / Designated Person (DP) - where trained/instructed
- Experience of mentoring and instructing other team members
- Team Player
- Good written and verbal communication skills
