Food Service Design Manager, Design, Sustainability & Engineering
Design
London, UK
Description
Amazon's Global Real Estate & Facilities (GREF) Workplace Design & Construction team is seeking an experienced Designer to support the design and delivery of food service and food & beverage (F&B) amenity spaces across Amazon's global corporate portfolio. This role will partner closely with the Food Service Program Lead, Design Managers, Architects of Record (AORs), and Facilities teams to develop, refine, and execute design standards for cafeterias, coffee shops, market spaces, and back-of-house kitchen environments.
This role is primarily a support function — responsible for translating program-level direction into detailed design documentation and ensuring consistent execution across projects. The scope ranges from producing construction-ready drawings for new food service buildouts, to updating and maintaining design standards for existing amenity spaces, to supporting the development of digital tools that streamline program recommendations for project teams. Over time, this role should gain familiarity with Amazon's global food service portfolio in order to proactively identify opportunities for design improvements and standardization across regions.
Day-to-day, this role will mainly collaborate with the Food Service Program Lead, supporting the translation of strategic program goals into actionable design deliverables. The role will also work closely with Design Managers overseeing project delivery, AORs producing construction documents, and Facilities teams responsible for ongoing operations and compliance. When projects are delivered, this role will work with the Workplace Guidelines & Standards team to document design elements that need to be integrated into global standards — including producing visuals, specifications, and narratives that can be published as guidelines. The role will also contribute to cross-functional initiatives related to food service equipment procurement, vendor evaluation, and process improvement.
The successful candidate is a detail-oriented design professional who thrives in a support capacity — someone who takes pride in producing precise, well-documented deliverables and ensuring design intent is faithfully executed. They should be comfortable working across multiple projects simultaneously, adapting global standards to regional contexts, and communicating clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. This person is not afraid to dive deep into equipment layouts, health code requirements, or casework specifications, and brings a methodical approach to complex documentation challenges. The candidate must be able to balance frugality with quality in offering solutions and approach problem-solving with an emphasis on root cause. They should understand the nuance of being approachable while at the same time consultative — knowing when to escalate and when to resolve independently.
This is a Global role supporting projects across AMER, EMEA, and APAC regions, requiring approximately 10% travel. At Amazon, we also believe that in-person collaboration is essential to our culture and innovation. While we allow flexibility for personal circumstances, we generally expect employees to work from our offices five days a week. This approach has consistently shown that spontaneous interactions, rapid problem-solving, and the energy of in-person teamwork lead to better results for our customers. In particular, our data shows that teams working together in person are more effective at making complex decisions, onboarding new team members, and fostering the kind of creative collaboration that has driven Amazon's success. The serendipitous hallway conversations and impromptu whiteboarding sessions that happen naturally in an office environment have proven invaluable to our invention process and maintaining our high bar for excellence.
