The Opportunity

We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Transport Planner to join our innovative, collaborative and creative Transport Consulting team. Given the variety of job titles across the industry, this role may suit candidates currently working as senior or principal transport planners, engineers or development planning consultants.

You will support a wide range of cities and development projects, including major regeneration schemes, international masterplans, new towns and housing growth, and nationally significant infrastructure projects. Our portfolio spans projects such as major London developments, international masterplans across the Middle East and North Africa, new settlements across the UK, and transport‑led infrastructure projects in rail, aviation, energy and water.

In this role, you will contribute to the project management and technical delivery of transport and development planning advice. This includes producing Transport Statements and Transport Assessments, advising clients on active travel and sustainable transport, developing transport strategies, undertaking analysis and modelling, and supporting on‑site and off‑site transport design requirements for all users.

You will be trusted to deliver technical excellence, manage project inputs effectively, and support client relationships, while working within a supportive team that encourages learning, innovation and professional growth. You will also contribute to business development and work‑winning activity, helping to promote Arup in external markets.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for enthusiastic transport planners who are motivated by creating great places and shaping cities for people. You will bring:

  • A strong interest in the role of transport in supporting local, regional and national objectives
  • Experience delivering transport and development planning advice for development sites, urban areas, public realm or major destinations
  • Experience managing and delivering projects, either as Project Manager for small to medium schemes or as a technical lead on larger projects
  • The ability to analyse, model and assess future transport demand and network requirements, and apply transport design guidance within a city context (e.g. DMRB, Manual for Streets, walking, cycling and bus standards)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, well‑structured technical reports and present ideas confidently

You will also enjoy taking responsibility, working proactively within a collaborative team, and supporting the development of peers and junior colleagues as your career progresses.
