The Opportunity
This is an exciting time to join Arup as we sit at the heart of the UK’s infrastructure sector, supporting a number of nationally significant schemes across energy, water, aviation and transport. As our portfolio of major projects continues to grow, we are looking for a Consultant to strengthen our national stakeholder engagement and consultation offer.
In this role, you will support the delivery of stakeholder engagement and consultation activity on some of the UK’s largest Development Consent Order (DCO) and Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA) projects. Working closely with the Stakeholder Engagement Lead and multidisciplinary project teams, you will contribute to the planning, delivery and evaluation of consultation programmes from early strategy through to reporting.
Your work will include supporting the preparation of stakeholder and consultation plans, assisting with the management and delivery of public consultation events, and contributing to the facilitation of stakeholder workshops. You will support the analysis of consultation responses, help develop coding frameworks, and contribute to the preparation of statutory and non-statutory consultation reports. You will also be involved in stakeholder and audience identification and mapping, drafting project key messages for a range of audiences, and supporting the development and use of new technologies and best-practice consultation techniques.
At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
Is this role right for you?
We are looking for a motivated consultation and engagement professional who enjoys working collaboratively and is keen to develop their expertise further. You are likely to bring:
Demonstrable experience delivering stakeholder engagement and consultation for DCO and TCPA projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience supporting consultation events and engagement activities
Good organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
A creative approach to consultation, with an interest in developing and applying a range of engagement and communications tools
-
The ability to work effectively as part of a team, supporting others during consultation activity and building strong internal relationships
A degree, master’s or diploma in communications, public relations, town planning or a related discipline is expected, along with an interest in working towards chartered membership of a relevant professional institute such as the Consultation Institute or the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (or equivalent). Experience in sectors such as energy, transport or water would be advantageous.
