The Opportunity

As our portfolio continues to grow, we are looking for an Associate – Stakeholder Engagement to play a key leadership role in shaping and strengthening our national consultation and engagement offer.

As an Associate, you will lead engagement and consultation workstreams across major infrastructure and Development Consent Order (DCO) projects, acting as a trusted advisor to clients and holding key relationships. You will work closely with the Associate Director to help lead the Stakeholder Engagement team, support tender opportunities, and contribute to the continued development of this national service offering across sectors such as energy, water and transport.

You will lead the development and delivery of engagement strategies, oversee consultation delivery and reporting, and support the use of best‑practice approaches, tools and technologies. Alongside project delivery, you will play an important role in managing projects, budgets and teams, supporting the growth and development of colleagues, and working collaboratively across Arup to deliver high‑quality engagement outcomes.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for an experienced engagement and consultation professional who enjoys leading work, building trusted relationships and supporting others to grow. You are likely to bring:

  • Extensive experience leading engagement and consultation on DCO projects during the consenting process

  • Experience building and maintaining strong client relationships and acting as a trusted advisor

  • A strong interest in, and understanding of, the political and policy context affecting the built environment and major infrastructure

  • A good knowledge of, and interest in, digital communications and engagement tools

  • A willingness to work flexibly and travel across the UK to support clients and projects when needed

  • You will be comfortable managing projects, teams and budgets, overseeing suppliers and contractors, and supporting the development of junior colleagues, including through line management.

  • Sector experience in energy, transport or water, particularly within communications, consultation and engagement would be desirable.
