The Opportunity

As our portfolio continues to grow, we are looking for a Senior Consultant to play a key role in strengthening our national stakeholder engagement and consultation offer.

In this role, you will take responsibility for delivering stakeholder engagement and consultation activity on major Development Consent Order (DCO) and Town and Country Planning Act (TCPA) projects. Working closely with multidisciplinary project teams, you will manage defined workstreams and, on some projects, act as a Deputy Stakeholder Engagement Lead — deputising where required and working directly with clients and project partners.

You will contribute to stakeholder and consultation plans, lead elements of public consultation delivery, oversee the analysis and coding of consultation responses, and support the preparation of statutory and non‑statutory consultation reports. You will also help facilitate stakeholder workshops, support the development of best‑practice consultation approaches and technologies, and build strong internal relationships across Arup to deliver integrated engagement outcomes.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We are looking for someone who enjoys collaborative working and is motivated to keep developing their consultation and engagement expertise. You are likely to bring:

  • Experience delivering stakeholder engagement and consultation for DCO and TCPA projects

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience supporting consultation events

  • Good organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities

  • A creative and thoughtful approach to consultation, with an interest in developing and applying a range of engagement and communications tools

  • Experience working as part of a team and supporting others during consultation activity

  • A degree, master’s or diploma in communications, public relations, town planning or a related discipline is expected, along with an interest in working towards chartered membership of a relevant professional institute such as the Consultation Institute or the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (or equivalent).

  • Experience in sectors such as energy, transport or water would be advantageous.
