We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is looking for technically inspiring work on cutting-edge projects, to join our creative and friendly Building Engineering Team in London. We are looking for an enthusiastic engineer with excellent design and technical skills who enjoys working collaboratively in multi-professional design teams on large UK and international projects, taking design responsibility for projects from inception to completion to achieve outstanding results.

The Opportunity

The role will be closely linked with the architectural and engineering design of a large variety of new and existing building developments, working in close collaboration with the most eminent architectural practices and developers in UK and abroad. Projects will include the inception, calculation, modelling and design of mechanical engineering systems from concept to tender phase, construction, hand over and post-completion evaluation.

The position offers great opportunities for interfacing with other disciplines and helping clients realise the true performance of their building, with the successful candidate being expected to take a foremost role in developing the mechanical building system designs and integrating the work on multi-discipline teams.

Current group focus areas include arts and cultural sector, commercial and mixed-use, science and industry, heritage and refurbishment, and low- and zero-carbon buildings. The diversity of workload and strength of client links has meant strong growth over the last year and a need for new team members to join our creative team.

Our team sits within the Building Engineering business in London, featuring a strong emphasis on collaboration, architecturally design-led projects and a positive culture of which you would be a pivotal part.
Example projects include the British Museum redevelopment with Lina Gotmeh, the Hanoi Opera House with Renzo Piano, the new Museum of London with architects Stanton Williams, and a number of large-scale London commercial buildings.

Responsibilities

This is a very exciting opportunity to take a steering role in the sustainable outcome on your projects, working closely with the architect and other team members in the development of the building form to align with design principles and energy and sustainability strategies. You will be given the support to develop your design and leadership skills with opportunities to advance to leading projects and teams.

  • Managing the mechanical design concepts that encompass the latest design thinking on low energy design, natural ventilation, sustainability and zero carbon.
  • Nurturing and developing client and collaborator relationships.
  • Coordinating the design analysis and working with the team to optimise systems
  • Designing of mechanical building systems including air conditioning, heating, natural and mechanical ventilation systems.
  • Managing the production of models, drawings, reports and specifications
  • Supervising and coordinating the work of others and coordinating work with engineers of other disciplines including in-house specialists
  • Mentoring and development of junior colleagues and continue your own professional development.

    We are looking to speak to people who:

Requirements

Experience and a good understanding of the design of mechanical building services
Degree qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering, ideally at Masters level as well as chartered or working toward chartership
A willingness to adapt and develop to solve analytical challenges relating to energy usage, temperatures and other relevant engineering parameters.
Ideally you will have experience of thermal modelling (Part L / TM 54 etc) and capable of overseeing the production of building energy models using one of the widely used software (i.e. IES, TAS, Energy Plus, Design Builder)
Ideally have lead on design elements and coordination of small teams of engineers on projects
