Joining Arup

Arup’s purpose, shared values and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.

The Opportunity

Today, risks to people, assets and organisations are rapidly evolving. Arup’s Resilience, Security and Risk team helps clients understand and manage these risks through proportionate, effective and sustainable solutions across sectors including data centres, aviation, government and critical infrastructure.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Security Consultant / Systems Engineer to lead security design packages and systems solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, the security lead consultant and clients, you will translate security strategies and risk assessments into practical, buildable designs and deliver high-quality solutions aligned with project objectives.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking physical security and forced-entry surveys, identifying vulnerabilities and assessing site-specific risks.
  • Assessing the forced-entry resistance of building elements, including walls, floors, roofs, doors, glazing, frames and locks.
  • Developing layered physical security and hardening solutions for new and existing facilities.
  • Preparing security strategies, Operational Requirements, Security Management Plans and technical specifications.
  • Coordinating security requirements with architecture, structures and building services teams.
  • Completing technical reviews, design surveys, installation inspections and security assurance activities.
  • Communicating complex security requirements clearly to clients and project teams.

At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.

You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.

Is this role right for you?

We’d like to hear from you if:

  • You have strong technical knowledge and practical experience in designing and assessing physical security measures to protect buildings, infrastructure and critical assets against forced entry.
  • You have experience applying threat assessments, security risk assessments and Operational Requirements to develop proportionate protection measures, supported by detailed knowledge of relevant standards and guidance, including NPSA (National Protective Security Authority) and legacy CPNI (Centre for the Protection of National Infrastructure) guidance, LPCB/LPS standards, EN 1627–1630, PAS 24 and Secured by Design.
  • You have delivered security consultancy, design or assurance services in government, defence, critical national infrastructure, law enforcement or another security-sensitive environment. Experience of classified or protective-marked environments, secure information handling, UK Government vetting processes or Security Aspects Letters would be advantageous, as would RSES registration in Forced Entry Protection or equivalent experience.
  • You understand how forced-entry and physical protection measures form part of an integrated security solution, including video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, perimeter security, Hostile Vehicle Mitigation, integration with fire and Building Management Systems, and BIM or Revit-based design environments.
