Job Title: Digital Engineering Team Leader

Location: Cowes, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth Broad Oak or Great Baddow, Chelmsford – working 4 days weekly on site

Salary: Up to £61,600 DOE + bonus scheme

Role description:

You will provide first‑line technical and people leadership, with both technical and administrative responsibility for a team of digital electronics engineers. Working closely with the Digital Engineering Design Authority and Project Engineering Manager, you will ensure high‑quality, compliant engineering solutions are delivered to cost, schedule, and risk targets. Alongside leadership responsibilities, you will remain technically active, supporting the resolution of complex engineering challenges.

Core duties:

  • Leading and developing a team of Digital Electronics Engineers delivering complex multi‑function Radar systems
  • Providing technical leadership and assurance, working closely with the Design Authority to deliver robust, compliant solutions
  • Taking accountability for team outputs, ensuring effective integration and collaboration across engineering, project, and delivery teams
  • Planning, prioritising, allocating, and reviewing work and documentation, providing clear progress, risk, and status updates to project leadership
  • Managing and developing engineers through performance management, coaching, training, and succession planning
  • Supporting project delivery through hands‑on technical expertise, driving high standards of quality, safety, governance, and continuous improvement across the engineering lifecycle

Essential skills:

  • Degree in Electronic & Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership or working towards chartership with a recognised professional institution
  • Experience across digital engineering lifecycle, from requirements through design assurance and sign-off
  • Knowledge of digital design, including complex PCBs, FPGAs / CPLDs, verification and validation process, including VHDL test benches, laboratory testing, and integration at PCB, cabinet, and system level
  • Broad understanding of electronic disciplines (digital, analogue, RF, electrical) and cross‑functional collaboration
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and people management experience, including mentoring, development, succession planning, and resource forecasting

The Radar Systems Engineering team:

You’ll join a highly collaborative, multidisciplinary Radar Systems Engineering team as a Digital Engineering Team Lead, working on both in‑service and next‑generation radar products. Our engineers operate at the cutting edge of defence technology, developing advanced radar solutions to meet customer needs.

This is an opportunity to lead and work with talented engineers, influence technical direction, and play a key role in shaping the future of Radar capability.

Our Cowes site offers an easy commute from Southampton, with a regular and fast foot passenger ferry and a BAE‑provided shuttle service from the ferry terminal to site, making island working practical and accessible.
