Role description:
As a Senior Engineer, working within the Warship Capability Centre, you will be responsible for conducting noise and vibration measurements, acoustic signature predictions and technical assessment activities during Factory Acceptance Testing, Harbour Trials and Sea Trials.
Core Duties:
- Support the GCS programmes to meet the Wholeship signature requirements by conducting Noise and Vibration technical assessments (including structure borne vibration, airborne noise and fluid borne noise) throughout the project lifecycle from design and procurement to integration, setting to work and harbour/sea trial
- Lead Noise and Vibration (N&V) Factory Acceptance Test measurements being undertaken at supplier’s facilities (UK and Overseas), reporting to the Principal Engineer / Engineering Manager
- Liaise with the Test and Commissioning team to plan and conduct machinery vibration assurance and acceptance measurements during the Harbour and Sea trials programmes
- Deputise for the Principal Engineer, when required, with planning of the Assurance and Acceptance measurement programme, working closely with the Technical Authority and MoD Acceptance Authority
- As a Senior Engineer, you will be expected to lead on technical tasks with a relatively high level of self-autonomy whilst providing support and guidance to junior engineers working within the Capability Centre.
Essential skills:
- Batchelor’s Degree with honours or master’s degree in engineering, Technology or Science (or equivalent accredited learning to honours degree level).
- Membership of a Professional Engineering Institute recognised by the Engineering Council. Registered or working towards CEng (or equivalent).
- Proficiency in Noise and Vibration measurement acquisition techniques and associated software
Signatures Capability Centre Team:
You will be working with a multidisciplinary team tasked with assuring the Signature(s) performance of T26 Frigate. From concept system designs to the assessment of the whole ship , you will be involved in all aspects of the ship build lifecycle from concept designs through to Sea Trials.
The role involves providing support to the GCS (Global Combat Ships) programmes as well as exposure to future business activities and the international Subject Matter Expert (SME) technical community.
