Location: Filton (Bristol). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – however for this role you will be expected to attend your site 4-5 days per week.

Role description

Modelling and Simulation has applications throughout the engineering lifecycle, from prototyping and evaluating early design concepts to producing realistic models of system performance. It supports a wide range of activities including the development of complex, networked simulations for front-line training, as well as the development, validation and improvement of advanced software toolsets. Working within the Computational Engineering department in Filton, you will join a multi-disciplinary team developing innovative solutions that support engineering decision-making across BAE Systems. Activities may include software development, simulation, artificial intelligence, data analysis and toolset validation depending on business needs and your experience and interest.

Core duties

  • Develop, validate and enhance modelling, simulation and software solutions using engineering and programming principles.
  • Utilise skills and knowledge to carry out technical tasks in accordance with relevant software quality processes and development best practice – C++/Python experience beneficial.
  • Support the development and application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), generative Artificial Intelligence (LLM) and data analysis tools.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, partner companies and customers to understand requirements and develop effective solutions.
  • Develop skills, knowledge and experience through project work, self-learning and formal training.
  • Support colleagues technically and contribute to the successful delivery of team objectives.

Qualification requirements

As a minimum requirement you’ll need to be on track to obtain, a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree or a pass at Master’s level in the following subjects: Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Games Development, Computer Graphics, Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or STEM subjects with modelling and simulation related modules.
