Location: Barrow (Cumbria). We offer a range of hybrid and flexible working arrangements – however for this role you will be expected to attend your site 5 days per week.

Salary: £34,000 Per Annum + £2,000 Welcome Bonus

Role description

As a Graduate Submarines Nuclear Primary Build Organisation Operations Engineer, you will develop a broad understanding of Nuclear Engineering Operations and Submarine Build activities within the PBO. You have an opportunity to work in some of the specialised areas in the PBO gaining exposure to the processes, technologies and specialities that support the safe delivery of nuclear-powered submarines. Throughout the programme, you will build your technical knowledge and skills and gain insight into different areas of the Primary Build Organisation, culminating in an exit role within the Primary Build Operations Function. This role provides a strong foundation for a long-term career as a Nuclear Operations Engineer within a complex and highly regulated environment.

Core duties

  • Placements across some of the specialist Primary Build Organisation teams to develop a broad understanding of Nuclear Engineering activities as the business demands it.
  • Shadow experienced engineers and technical specialists to gain practical knowledge of engineering processes, systems and ways of working.
  • Develop technical, professional and problem-solving skills through on-the-job learning and project-based activities.
  • Support engineering tasks and contribute to the delivery of team objectives within assigned placements.
  • Gain experience within multiple nuclear-focused teams, including a placement with the New Nuclear Build & Commissioning Facilities team (BCF).
  • Work towards securing a permanent position within the PBO, building the knowledge and experience required to become a Nuclear Operations Engineer.

Qualification requirements

As a minimum requirement you must have obtained, or be predicted to obtain, a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree or a pass at Master’s level in the following subjects: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a STEM subject is applicable.
