PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £45,000 - £52,000 plus £5441 London Weighting, depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Please note: While BBC Studios offers 26 days of annual leave, Studioworks provides 25 days. Other benefits may also vary slightly between the two entities.

ABOUT BBC STUDIOWORKS

BBC Studioworks Ltd is a commercial arm of the BBC, delivering world-class studio facilities, post-production services, and related services to the market. It works with production companies and broadcasters to create and edit content for a variety of channels and broadcasters - including the BBC’s EastEnders and Strictly Come Dancing, to Pointless and ITV’s The Chase.

The company’s main studios are based in Borehamwood/Elstree and Television Centre in Shepherd’s Bush, London. It also operates a studio in Kelvin Hall, Glasgow, which launched in 2022. Most recently, BBC Studioworks is expanding to Digbeth, taking on the management of an exciting new studio facility dedicated to film and television productions.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Join BBC Studioworks as a Supervisory Post Production Engineer, supporting post-production services across Elstree and Television Centre. You’ll ensure Avid, EVS, storage and file-based workflows run reliably, lead incident response, and provide hands-on technical support to production teams in busy studio environments. Your expertise will help deliver resilient, high-quality post-production services that enable creative teams to produce outstanding programmes for audiences every day.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • IP networking troubleshooting, including TCP/IP, VLAN configuration, routing, switching, multicast traffic and network diagnostics, with the ability to identify and resolve network-related issues impacting media systems and file-based workflows.
  • Provide expert operational support for post-production systems including Avid, EVS, shared storage and file-based workflows, ensuring services remain reliable and available for productions.
  • Lead and coordinate technical incident response, resolving issues efficiently to minimise impact on studio operations and programme delivery.
  • Support and optimise Avid (MediaCentral, Interplay, Nexis) and EVS (XT, XS, XTA, IPDirector) environments, working closely with production and editorial teams.
  • Manage and troubleshoot file transfer and content movement services, ensuring secure, timely and reliable delivery of media between systems and locations.
  • Monitor and resolve storage performance and capacity issues across shared storage platforms, maintaining content availability and operational resilience.

YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrated expertise in IP networking, including designing networks and troubleshooting.
  • Experience supporting Avid and EVS post-production workflows in a broadcast, studio, or production environment. That includes collaborative workflows (interplay, IPDirector)
  • Administrative-level experience supporting Windows, Linux and macOS systems in a production or operational environment.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues across post-production systems, including storage and file-based workflows, in time-critical situations. Command line experience is required.
  • Experience leading or coordinating technical incident response, maintaining service continuity and clear communication with stakeholders.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to support production and editorial users effectively.
  • Experience in Live/Studio Broadcast workflows.
  • Knowledge of Baseband video and audio workflows (Vision mixers, Video Routers, Comms Systems, Etc)
  • Recognised experience in a similar role.

DESIRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:

  • Avid Certified Support Representative (ACSR) certification or equivalent experience supporting enterprise Avid environments.
  • EVS certification and hands-on experience supporting EVS platforms including XT, XS, XTA servers, IPDirector and databases.
  • Networking certification (vendor-neutral or vendor-specific) and practical understanding of IP networking in media environments.
  • Experience working with virtualised or cloud-based systems, including virtual machines and containerised platforms.
  • Experience producing and maintaining technical documentation using tools such as AutoCAD, including system diagrams and layouts.
