The CDO will drive data-driven transformation, ensuring that data is leveraged as a strategic asset to deliver business value, operational efficiency, and innovation. We recognize the importance of data as one of the key pillars to drive our company’s future growth and its pivotal role in providing vision and strategic delivery for our business. We are continuing an ambitious transformation program with data at its heart, and we are looking for a new CDO to help deliver this transformation and help our business deliver growth through the improved use of data and AI.
The CDO will work in close collaboration with CDO peers in other parts of bp, the central Data Office and the Digital team within bp’s Technology organization. The CDO represents ST&S in bp data governance which defines enterprise data priorities, data management, modelling and quality guardrails, and sets the strategic direction for enterprise data platforms. This focus ensures that the data strategy is delivered in line with enterprise standards and also tailored to the specific requirements of ST&S, maximising business value and supporting bp’s broader data and AI ambitions.
The CDO is expected to champion the creation of measurable business value from data, driving profitability, risk management, and competitive advantage in a fast-paced, highly regulated, and globally interconnected industry.
In the role, you will be accountable for:
Data Strategy & Vision: Refresh, develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy for ST&S, aligned with both business objectives and the enterprise-wide data vision set by the group Data Office in collaboration with other entity CDOs.
Data Governance & Quality: Establish and enforce robust data governance frameworks, policies, and standards to ensure data integrity, quality, security, and compliance across ST&S. Champion data stewardship and accountability throughout the entity.
Collaboration & Alignment: Act as the primary liaison between ST&S and the central data hub, ensuring consistent adoption of enterprise data standards, architecture, and platforms. Collaborate with other CDOs and data leaders across the organization to drive synergies and best practices.
Data Value Creation: Identify and deliver high-impact data use cases that drive commercial growth, operational efficiency, and risk management. Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making and innovation, leveraging advanced analytics, AI/ML, and digital technologies.
Data Platform & Technology: Work closely with ST&S’s Digital team, which aligns to enterprise-wide data & AI solutions, but also manages ST&S-specific data solutions, ensuring technology delivery follows enterprise standards while meeting unique business needs and maximizing value.
Data Privacy, Ethics & Compliance: Lead on data privacy, ethics, and regulatory compliance for ST&S, ensuring adherence to global standards and local regulations (e.g., DORA, GDPR, etc.). Promote responsible data use and ethical AI practices.
External Data & Partnerships: Manage relationships with external data vendors and partners, ensuring value for money, quality, and compliance. Evaluate and onboard new data sources to enhance business insights.
Team Leadership & Capability Building: Build and lead a high-performing data team, fostering continuous learning, diversity, and professional growth. Champion data literacy and upskilling across ST&S.
