The Senior Procurement Manager – Strategy, Transformation & Performance leads a team responsible for shaping procurement’s functional strategy, operating model and supporting its consistent execution across the organisation.

This role focuses on setting clear strategic direction, designing and delivering transformation initiatives, supporting change adoption, and overseeing performance management. Working closely with colleagues across procurement, bp more broadly and external organisations, you will help ensure that new ways of working are practical, aligned, and embedded over time.

The role suits someone who brings a structured, but creative and collaborative approach, is comfortable working in complex environments, and values inclusive engagement with diverse collaborators.

Key areas of responsibility

  • Lead the development and ongoing evolution of procurement’s functional strategy, ensuring alignment with bp’s wider business objectives.

  • Define objectives, metrics, goals and achievements that support effective delivery and enable clear performance tracking.

  • Oversee programmes of work that strengthen procurement capability, consistency and outcomes across regions.

  • Develop and apply insight‑led reporting to support informed decision‑making and continuous improvement.

  • Develop understanding of external market trends and industry practices, sharing relevant insight within procurement and bp.

  • Work closely with the SVP Procurement Office on strategy materials, performance updates and position papers.

Transformation and change

  • Lead transformation initiatives within your discipline to improve ways of working, tools and capabilities.

  • Support the coordination of change across a broad partner landscape, recognising different regional and functional contexts.

  • Use appropriate change management approaches, metrics and feedback to support sustainable adoption.

  • Encourage the effective use of digital tools and data to support efficiency and value creation.

Communication and engagement

  • Develop clear, accessible narratives that explain objectives, progress and expected outcomes.

  • Engage with partners across procurement and bp to build alignment and shared understanding.

  • Represent procurement in relevant internal forums and, where appropriate, external industry settings.

Team leadership

  • Lead and develop a team with a focus on collaboration, learning and continuous improvement.

  • Support the development of technical and transferable skills, including data literacy, digital awareness and partner engagement.

  • Create an inclusive, respectful team environment where different perspectives are encouraged.

  • Provide coaching, guidance and clear direction, while promoting accountability and wellbeing.

  • Role model bp’s values, Code of Conduct and safety leadership expectations.

What we’re looking for

Education

  • Degree‑level qualification (procurement or a related subject area preferred), or equivalent relevant professional experience.

  • A postgraduate qualification related to procurement is desirable but not essential.

  • Experience leading or supporting global teams through complex programmes or change initiatives.

  • Understanding of procurement processes and category management practices.

  • Ability to work collaboratively across disciplines to ensure alignment and complementary outcomes.

  • Experience engaging with senior stakeholders and explaining complex topics clearly.

  • Awareness of external market trends and industry practices, with the ability to assess their relevance to bp.

Skills and ways of working

  • Structured approach to programme and change management.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to support inclusive dialogue.

  • Thoughtful problem‑solving and sound judgement when balancing strategic intent with practical delivery.
