What to expect
Our five-day paid work experience programme is a hands-on and transformative learning experience. It is designed to help you to identify your strengths, adapt to change, discover your personal brand, enhance your communication skills, and collaborate as a team.
During your time on the programme, you will have the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals, hear from a range of bp employees sharing their experience, and both find and use your voice in a professional environment.
You will also gain an understanding of how your skills and interests can be used in a career at bp, hear about our early careers programmes, including hints and tips for success through the recruitment process.
Subject to meeting the relevant requirements, participants who go on to apply to applicable bp apprenticeship programmes (excluding Supply, Trading & Shipping apprenticeships) may progress through to technical interview, as they have already completed the earlier assessment stages through the work experience application.

Eligibility
This programme is open to those who wish to pursue an apprenticeship at bp in Autumn 2027, in any discipline and are from a lower socio-economic background.
You must have:
- Been eligible for UK Government funded Free School Meals
Or meet both of these criteria:
- You attended a UK state school or college AND
- The occupation of the main household earner when you were aged 14 was one of the following:
- Technical and craft occupations such as: motor mechanic, plumber, printer, electrician, gardener, train driver.
- Routine, semi-routine manual and service occupations such as: postal worker, machine operative, security guard, caretaker, farm worker, catering assistant, sales assistant, HGV driver, cleaner, porter, packer, labourer, waiter/waitress, bar staff.
- Long-term unemployed (claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance or earlier unemployment benefit for more than a year).
In addition you must have:
- Right to Work in the UK, and
- Achieved a grade 4 (C) in GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent)

This opportunity will take place at the following UK offices:
bp Sunbury - ICBT (International Centre for Business & Technology), Chertsey Road, Sunbury on Thames, Middlesex, TW16 7LN
Start & end dates
Monday 19 October – Friday 23 October 2026
Times: 10am – 3pm each day.
You will be expected to commit to attending the full week in person. Applicants are expected to live within a reasonable commuting distance to Sunbury. Reasonable commuting costs will be reimbursed in accordance with our policy which will be shared with any successful applicants.

Salary:
This experience is paid at the real living wage, which currently equates to £14.80 per hour for London (subject to applicable statutory deductions).
