About the Role

The Senior Legal Counsel will provide legal advice and support to HSBC’s investment bank’s (“CIB”) Equity Capital Markets (ECM), Equity-Linked Capital Markets (ELCM) and Mergers & Acquisition (M&A) businesses across a broad range of transaction types. The role is focused on ECM and M&A in MENAT and ELCM work in EMEA.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert and professional legal advice, guidance and support to ensure that the legal and reputational risk of the relevant business areas are identified, reported and mitigated.
  • Assist CIB senior management to manage legal risk across the CIB business in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Establish close mutually supportive working relationships with other members of the CIB Legal team and the Global Legal Function.
  • Provide counsel, legal support and legal risk management on a variety of legal matters and transactions, including complex matters.
  • Act as an escalation point for risk events and issues.
  • Provide prompt, commercial, practical and sometimes complex legal advice to relevant businesses.
  • Ensure senior legal management is fully briefed on major issues arising in relevant business areas and major legislative changes in area of expertise.
  • Support achievement of the HSBC vision, Values, goals and culture in personal behaviour, actions and decision making.
  • Develop and recommend changes and improvements to operating models, procedures and practices based on subject matter expertise.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Lawyer
  • Knowledge and experience of banking, corporate and securities law concepts and a working knowledge of the laws in the major jurisdictions in which HSBC operates.
  • Corporate experience and Compliance experience an advantage, but not essential.
  • Knowledge of the HSBC Group corporate structures, its business and personnel and a clear understanding of HSBC’s corporate culture.

Pay range and compensation package

The compensation package will be competitive and commensurate with experience.
