In this role, you'll work in one of our IBM Consulting Client Innovation Centers (Delivery Centers), where we deliver deep technical and industry expertise to a wide range of public and private sector clients around the world. Our delivery centers offer our clients locally based skills and technical expertise to drive innovation and adoption of new technology.
The Senior Business Analyst leads the elicitation, analysis, and documentation of business and functional requirements, translating complex business needs into clear, actionable specifications for technical delivery teams.
The role plays a key part across the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), shaping solutions that meet business objectives while aligning with architectural, security, and technical constraints. Operating in complex and often sensitive environments, the Senior Business Analyst works closely with senior stakeholders, technical specialists, and delivery leads to ensure successful outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the gathering, analysis, and documentation of business and functional requirements across complex initiatives.
- Produce high‑quality artefacts including user stories, acceptance criteria, process maps, use cases, and functional specifications.
- Conduct impact analysis, gap analysis, and solution assessments to inform design and delivery decisions.
- Facilitate requirements workshops and structured discussions with business and technical stakeholders.
- Work closely with developers, testers, architects, and vendors to clarify requirements and manage change.
- Support and shape Agile delivery activities including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and prioritisation.
- Provide assurance that delivered solutions meet business intent through requirements validation and support to testing activities.
- Mentor or guide less experienced Business Analysts where appropriate and contribute to BA best practices.
- Support stakeholder engagement by translating complex technical concepts into clear business language.
- Strong experience in business analysis, requirements elicitation, and documentation within complex delivery environments
- Proven ability to create user stories, acceptance criteria, use cases, and process models
- Experience performing impact analysis, gap analysis, and supporting solution design
- Solid understanding of the SDLC and Agile delivery methodologies
- Working knowledge of system integrations, APIs, and application behaviour
- Strong stakeholder management and facilitation skills, including engagement with senior stakeholders
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills
- Ability to operate autonomously while collaborating effectively within multi‑disciplinary teams
This role is subject to pre-employment screening in line with the UK Government’s Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS). An additional range of Personal Security Controls referred to as National Security Vetting (NVS) may apply, this could include meeting the eligibility requirements for The Security Check (SC) or Developed Vetting (DV).
- Experience working in consulting, systems integration, or client‑facing delivery roles
- Exposure to delivery in secure, regulated, or government environments
- Experience working on cloud‑based or hybrid technology solutions
- Familiarity with DevOps delivery models and tooling (e.g. Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps)
- BA‑related certifications or training (e.g. BCS, IIBA, Agile BA)
- Experience supporting large‑scale or multi‑team delivery programmes
