The J.P. Morgan EMEA Technology Investment Banking team advises the region’s leading technology companies, their founders and their shareholders across software, semis, AI, internet, fintech and tech services. We advise on M&A, equity and debt capital markets and strategic financing across the full lifecycle, from private capital raises to large-cap public M&A.

About the role

As an Associate in the EMEA Technology team in London, you will work across both the origination and the execution of mandates in all major product areas. You will own the analytical workstreams on live mandates, build the client and internal materials that carry them, and engage directly with senior bankers and client management teams.

You will be supported by formal training, structured feedback and continuous mentoring from senior bankers. The role is deliberately broad: we expect Associates to build the full toolkit of valuation, structuring, sector judgement and client presence, and to progress towards originating and executing their own transactions.

Job responsibilities

  • Build and own valuation analysis, including DCF, trading comparables, transaction comparables LBO, accretion/dilution and merger consequences analysis
  • Run the day-to-day execution of live mandates, including workstream planning, diligence coordination and management of advisers and counterparties
  • Prepare pitch materials, management and Board presentations, internal committee memoranda and other transaction documentation for M&A, equity and debt capital markets transactions or strategic client dialogue
  • Perform transaction structuring and capital structure analysis, and translate the output into a clear, defensible recommendation
  • Engage directly with senior team members and client management teams to execute transactions and discuss strategic alternatives
  • Supervise, coach and review the work of analysts, and take ownership of the accuracy of what the team produces
  • Develop and maintain sector coverage: company and sub-sector profiles, thematic work, and a view on who should buy whom and why

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Over four years’ investment banking experience in a sector or country coverage team, with a track record on executed M&A and capital markets transactions
  • The judgement and maturity to engage with clients directly, in person and virtually
  • Proven financial modelling and valuation skills, demonstrated on live transactions rather than in a training environment
  • Ability to prioritise and deliver across several concurrent projects under transaction deadlines
  • A collaborative approach and a genuine willingness to coach and develop junior colleagues
  • Excellent attention to detail, and personal ownership of accuracy in models, documents and data
  • Excellent written and verbal communication in English, and the ability to make a complex analysis simple
  • Highly organised and proactive, with the self-direction to run workstreams with limited supervision

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Previous technology investment banking coverage experience
  • Experience of cross-border European transactions
  • Additional European language skills
