Senior Project Manager - Energy & Power (South West and Birmingham)
Jacobs
At Jacobs, we're challenging today to reinvent tomorrow by solving the world's most critical problems for thriving cities, resilient environments, mission-critical outcomes, operational advancement, scientific discovery and cutting-edge manufacturing, turning abstract ideas into realities that transform the world for good.
Shape the energy transition with Jacobs in our Project Management Team
Jacobs’ Energy and Power business focuses on helping clients navigate the transition to a cleaner, more secure and resilient energy system by combining strategic thinking with deep engineering and delivery capability. Working across the full energy lifecycle, Jacobs supports governments, utilities and developers to rethink how energy is generated, moved and used, with a strong emphasis on decarbonisation, energy security and long‑term system performance.
In the UK and globally, Jacobs plays a significant role in national energy transition programmes, including nuclear, hydrogen and carbon capture initiatives, often acting as a trusted technical advisor and programme manager.
Due to our expanding programs and new business we are looking for talented Senior Project Managers to join us in South West (Exeter/ Bristol) and North Midlands areas (Birmingham/ Leeds)
What you will be doing:
These senior leadership roles put you at the forefront of delivering nationally significant 400kV transmission and distribution infrastructure, where your technical expertise and leadership experience will directly influence the reliability and resilience of the UK’s energy network.
Working in close partnership with major asset owners such as National Grid and SSE, you will lead the end‑to‑end delivery of complex substation projects, shaping outcomes from early concept through to commissioning while operating within established framework environments.
Your ability to integrate and lead multi‑disciplinary teams — spanning civil engineering, high‑voltage electrical design, and protection and control — will be critical to maintaining safety, quality and programme certainty on some of the industry’s most technically demanding schemes.
By applying your experience in NEC‑based delivery, cost control, change management and forecasting, you will provide clients with confidence, predictability and robust governance, while ensuring projects meet strict regulatory and operational standards.
Beyond delivery, this role gives you genuine scope to leave a lasting legacy. You will act as a trusted interface with senior client and stakeholder teams, championing a safety‑first culture aligned with CDM and utility standards, while also developing the next generation of engineers, package managers and site leaders.
Through mentoring, capability building and strong collaborative leadership, your skills will not only enable the successful delivery of critical infrastructure today, but will also strengthen long‑term framework performance and Jacobs’ position as a trusted partner to the UK’s electricity network owners.
- Proven experience delivering energy, power, utilities, or major infrastructure projects
- Strong understanding of the project lifecycle (design → procurement → construction → commissioning → handover)
- Solid skills in project controls: scope, schedule, cost, risk, reporting
- Working knowledge of NEC contracts (especially change management)
- Ability to lead and coordinate multi‑disciplinary teams
- Competence with PM tools (e.g., MS Project, risk registers, standard PM reporting)
- Relevant degree or equivalent experience (Engineering, PM, Construction)
At Jacobs, you'll find more than just a job. You'll discover:
A global network of expertise and opportunity
A culture founded on safety, integrity, inclusion, and belonging
