As a Carbon Consultant, you’ll help organisations understand climate change regulation and take practical steps on their decarbonisation journey. You’ll develop expertise in carbon compliance frameworks such as the UK Emissions Trading Scheme and Climate Change Agreements, while working on a diverse mix of high‑profile projects.
This early‑career role offers space to grow—technically and professionally—with opportunities to contribute to innovative digital solutions, support project delivery and build client‑facing skills. As you progress, you’ll also gain exposure to project management and business development activities.
What You’ll Be Doing
In this role, you will work closely with a wide range of stakeholders—including clients, regulators and industrial operators—while applying and maintaining up‑to‑date knowledge of climate policy developments such as the UK ETS and Climate Change Agreements. You will carry out data analysis, utilise carbon tools and conduct research to support compliance assessments, alongside providing clear and reliable regulatory advice to diverse operators. Your work will involve reviewing emissions monitoring plans, validating energy, production and emissions data, and evaluating carbon policies while responding to regulatory queries. You will also support business development activities through bid preparation and opportunity scoping, and actively contribute to Jacobs’ global carbon and sustainability communities of practice
Here's what you'll need
- A degree in Geography, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering or a related subject.
- Around 2+ years’ experience in an environmental or sustainability role, ideally with consultancy or regulatory exposure.
- Foundational knowledge of carbon compliance mechanisms (UK/EU ETS, CCA) and enthusiasm to deepen expertise.
- Strong data‑handling and analysis skills, particularly with emissions, energy or production datasets.
- Clear written communication skills, including experience drafting technical notes or regulatory submissions.
