Make a Meaningful Impact: Join Us as a NRSWA Inspector in Hertfordshire

Jacobs, in collaboration with Hertfordshire County Council (HCC) and its supply chain, plays a vital role in protecting and maximising the value of HCC’s £8 billion portfolio of highways, structures, and environmental assets. This is more than just asset management — it’s about shaping the future of Hertfordshire’s infrastructure and ensuring it serves communities safely and sustainably.

We’re currently expanding our team and looking for an experienced NRSWA Inspector to join us in the Stevenage area. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a highly committed, delivery-focused Network Management compliance team, where your work will directly contribute to the smooth and safe operation of Hertfordshire’s busy highway network.

As a NRSWA Inspector, you’ll be at the forefront of ensuring compliance with the New Roads and Street Works Act (1991) and other key regulations. Your inspections will help maintain high standards across street works and highway activities, ensuring that contractors meet legal and safety requirements. You’ll capture real-time data, issue defect notices, and work closely with stakeholders including the Police, client teams, and statutory undertakers to resolve traffic management issues.

But your impact goes beyond inspections. You’ll also support the development of improved procedures and policies, contribute to resolving third-party complaints, and help shape best practices in network management. You’ll be a visible and valued representative of both Jacobs and Hertfordshire County Council, helping to uphold our shared commitment to excellence and public service.

This is a role where your expertise will make a real difference — not just to the infrastructure, but to the people who rely on it every day.

Here's what you'll need
  • Hold a NRSWA Supervisors accreditation with experience in a street works environment from a Highways Authority and / or Utility Company
  • Have experience of using the DFT Street Manager street works system together with a working knowledge of the noticing / permitting types and protocols associated with street works
  • Have experience of working within a street works permitting environment such as the East of England Permit Scheme
  • The position is fully mobile so you are required to hold a full clean driving licence – Jacobs vehicle (Van) and mobile phone is provided.
