Your impact

Whether it be bathing water reform, storm overflow impact assessment, the assessment of the impact of forever chemicals (PFAS) on major new water resource and supply options, or environmental enhancement opportunities. You will work on the delivery of major high profile, high value projects and initiatives that will be integral to achieving the once in a generation demand of water quality improvements that will impact, meet and exceed the highest level of policy and regulatory developments and legislation.

As one of multiple opportunities recently created for water quality analysts, integrated catchment management specialists, strategic water quality planning specialists and water quality modellers. In this particular role you will bring new ideas and capabilities, playing a key role in achieving and delivering our continued and significant growth.

With a sound knowledge of a core water quality core discipline such as estuarine and coastal modelling or the impact of PFAS on drinking water, your remit will include:

  • Develop advanced process-based modelling for water quality and Integrated catchment.
  • Deliver catchment-scale river water quality assessments, supporting regulatory frameworks such as the Water Framework Directive.
  • RQP / MPER – For environmental permitting, compliance assessment, and statistical evaluation of discharge impacts
  • Provide technical leadership for water quality studies, including: modelling, investigations, urban pollution modelling, and EIAs.
  • Support project teams, schedule of works, tender, planning and delivery.
  • Fostering a culture and support, proactively contribute to the ongoing mentoring, professional and personal development of colleagues.
  • Be recognized as the key stakeholder interface across all technical and commercial matters.
  • Check and review calculations and technical deliverables.
  • Continuously develop Subject Matter Expertise in the application of UK and Europe water quality modelling standards and analytics.

Here's what you'll need

With a sound knowledge of modelling software such as MIKE EcoLab, InfoWorks ICM, SAGIS/SIMCAT coupled with a background in developing solutions for water quality issues in a sector such as emerging chemicals, nature based solutions, natural flood risk management, we would be delighted to hear from candidates with a real mix of the followings, skills, experience and attributes:

  • Chartered member of/or keen to work towards CIWEM or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience of collaborating with both water utility companies and regulators
  • Urban pollution modelling, nutrient modelling.
  • Experience in the use of R\RStudio and Python (including AI and machine learning).
  • Environmental permitting.
  • A sound understanding of the importance of water quality in strategic and tactical decision making.
  • An indepth and developing understanding of recent developments in water quality policy and legislation.
  • A demonstratable track record in working with key stakeholders / clients (including Defra, Environment Agency, Natural Resources Wales, Planning Authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities, Environmental NGOs).
  • Experience of developing and implementing water quality tools, such as UPM water quality modelling tools, analytical and visualisation tools.
