Supporting a diverse portfolio of major UK and international clients across the maritime, defence, energy and transport sectors, our 100-strong UK Ports & Maritime team forms part of a global network of more than 750 specialist maritime engineers, delivering world-class expertise across commercial ports, bulk terminals, naval bases, breakwaters and coastal defences, dredging and reclamation, marine offloading facilities, and seawater intakes and outfalls.
Due to sustained growth and continued significant investment, a number of exciting opportunities have been created within our Ports & Maritime team.
Joining Jacobs at this pivotal stage, you'll help shape our business, solutions and capability footprint, playing an integral role in delivering world-class, innovative solutions that support decarbonisation, climate resilience and the modernisation of critical maritime infrastructure.
As an integral part of a dynamic and innovative team of industry experts, you will play a key role in delivering complex, safe and robust technical solutions and projects to both UK and international markets. Your remit will include:
- Facilitate the development of detailed design solutions for maritime infrastructure and facilities, such as quay walls, jetties, breakwaters, ferry terminals and shipyards.
- Carrying out structural design and assessment calculations, both manually and using software such as STAAD Pro and ANSYS.
- Take an active role in site-based structural inspections and providing design coordination services for works on site.
- Develop and produce client deliverables such as design reports, feasibility reports, inspection reports and calculation packages.
- Take a lead role in the preparation of contract documents, bills of quantities and specifications.
- Provide technical expertise to support the planning, management and delivery of projects using the latest BIM and other collaborative software, protocols and processes.
- Proactively identifying and engaging with Early Warning issues, managing change requests and contributing to compensation events.
- Provide technical and professional guidance, support and development to colleagues and peers, aiding their personal and professional development.
With a background in delivering maritime projects, we would be delighted to hear from candidates who can demonstrate a strong mix of the following skills, experience, knowledge and attributes:
- Chartered (or working towards Chartered status)
- Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Demonstrable experience in the design and engineering of maritime structures.
- Sound knowledge of British and international standards and/or Eurocodes.
- Established knowledge of structural theory and strong analytical skills.
- Proven problem-solving ability.
- Collaborative approach to working with stakeholders at all levels, including internal teams, JV partners and clients.
- Proven track record of delivering maritime projects and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
