Your impact

Supporting a diverse portfolio of major UK and international clients across the maritime, defence, energy and transport sectors, our 100-strong UK Ports & Maritime team forms part of a global network of more than 750 specialist maritime engineers. Together, we deliver world-class design and engineering solutions across commercial ports, bulk terminals, naval bases, breakwaters and coastal defences, dredging and reclamation schemes, marine offloading facilities, and seawater intake and outfall infrastructure.

Due to sustained growth and continued investment, a new role is being created for an experienced Project Design and Engineering Manager to join our Ports & Maritime team.

Working at the forefront of maritime infrastructure design, you will lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams throughout the project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept development through FEED, detailed design, procurement support, construction, commissioning and handover."

Responsible for managing design programmes, engineering deliverables, technical risk, interfaces and change control throughout the project lifecycle, your remit will include:

  • Provide strategic Engineering and Design leadership and strategy during bids, tenders and project development activities.
  • Be recognized as project engineering and design focal point for major maritime infrastructure projects.
  • Drive the development of innovative, practical and sustainable engineering solutions that meet client, operational and regulatory requirements.
  • Embed health, safety and environmental considerations into all engineering and design solutions
  • Ensure effective integration across civil, structural, geotechnical, marine, mechanical and Electrical functions.
  • Ensure constructability, maintainability and reliability across the whole asset lifecycle.
  • Support engineering teams in resolving complex technical challenges arising during design development and construction.
  • Promote innovation in digital engineering, sustainability, climate adaptation and low-carbon infrastructure design.
Here's what you'll need

Bringing established experience leading the design and engineering delivery of major maritime, marine, coastal or infrastructure projects, together with a sound understanding of project delivery principles and multidisciplinary engineering integration. We would be delighted to hear from candidates with a real mix of the following:

  • Proven experience in Design Management and Engineering Leadership on complex infrastructure projects.
  • A strong technical background within civil, structural, marine or related engineering disciplines.
  • Experience managing FEED, detailed design and design assurance processes.
  • Demonstrable success leading diverse engineering teams and coordinating multiple technical disciplines.
  • Collaborative stakeholder engagement skills with clients, contractors, regulators and project partners.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
  • A passion for technical excellence, innovation and developing sustainable infrastructure solutions.
