What you’ll be doing

You’ll be:

  • Generating economic scenarios for loan impairment calculations and stress testing

  • Designing and implementing enhancements to economic models

  • Contributing to our wider economic analysis and forecasts of the macroeconomic environment

The Team

Group Economics is at the centre of the Lloyds Bank Group, advising senior management on strategic economic and risk issues. Understanding the world around us, the impact on the organisation, customers and the wider economy is pivotal in our purpose of ‘Helping Britain Prosper’.

Our work combines technical macroeconomic and financial modelling together with liaising with business areas within the Group. We are responsible for producing economic analysis and detailed macroeconomic scenarios as a basis for Group in forming businesses plans, managing risks, evaluating potential future opportunities and making informed decisions.

We have a high level of responsibility within the Group and we work in a supportive and positive environment.

Why join us?

We’re on an exciting journey to transform our Group and the way we’re shaping finance for good. We’re focusing on the future, investing in our technologies, workplaces, and colleagues to make our Group a great place for everyone.

What we’re looking for?

We’re looking for an experienced economist with a strong quantitative background. In particular, we want somebody who can strengthen our capabilities in generating economic scenarios that support loan impairment impacts and financial reporting for our international exposures.

You’ll have:

  • Experience in scenario design and/or implementation

  • Strong quantitative modelling capabilities

  • A keen interest in global economic events and a desire to understand their impact on the Group.

  • We would expect you to have an MSc or higher in economics or a related field and at least 3 years of experience working as a professional economist or a similar role.

  • Identify, suggest and implement econometric model changes

  • Understand complex linkages and explain them in a simple and effective way

  • Adapt your communication style to suit a range of different audiences

And any experience of these would be great

Experience in using a global macroeconomic model and/or monitoring a major global economy would be beneficial.

We know that great talent comes from many backgrounds. Whilst this job advert may reference specific years of experience, we recognise that skills are developed in many ways, so if you have relevant, transferable experience, we encourage you to apply.

This is a place for you:

Our ambition is to be the leading UK business for diversity, equity and inclusion supporting our customers, colleagues and communities, and we’re committed to creating an environment in which everyone can thrive, learn and develop.

We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer Initiative.

We offer reasonable workplace adjustments for colleagues with disabilities, including flexibility in office attendance, location and working patterns. And, as a Disability Confident Leader, we guarantee interviews for a fair and proportionate number of applicants who meet the minimum criteria for the role with a disability, long-term health or neurodivergent condition through the Disability Confident Scheme.

We provide reasonable adjustments throughout the recruitment process to reduce or remove barriers. Just let us know what you need.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%

  • An annual performance-related bonus

  • Share schemes including free shares

  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping

  • 30 days’ holiday, with bank holidays on top

  • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies
