The Finance Data team owns the Data Quality Governance framework for the Finance Division. The team promotes best practices for data management with a focus on data quality. The team has global coverage and interacts with members across all areas of the Firm, including Finance, Operations, Institutional Securities, Firm Risk, Wealth Management, Technology, and external stakeholders.
This is an Associate level position within our Data Management Job Family which is responsible for supporting data management across Finance including data sourcing, execution of data quality controls, data issues management & data governance.
The Finance Data Sourcing and Governance team has responsibility for providing oversight on Global Data Quality Policy and BCBS 239 execution. The Firmwide principles establish and communicate best practices to effectively manage data, to assess the impact of data challenges, and to prioritize the remediation of issues related to data across the Firm. The aim of the Data Sourcing and Lineage team is to source and catalogue complete and accurate data from authoritative sources ensuring the data is 'fit for purpose' for finance reporting to align with Data Quality Policy and BCBS 239.
Given the heightened focus on adequate data quality governance, this is a growing team in the Glasgow office and presents a great opportunity to help shape the function going forward and gain exposure to a wide range of functions, products, and management across Morgan Stanley.
In the Finance division, we act as a partner to business units around the globe by providing management, review, analysis and advisory services of the Firm’s financial and capital resources. This is an Associate level position within the Data Management job family.

What you'll do in the role:
- Collaborate with a varied group of colleagues in Finance and across the Firm
- Responsible for both individual and team deliverables and projects, leveraging knowledge of Finance functional area, tools and/or products
- Adhere to the Firm's risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls
- Act as a culture carrier; embody the Firm's values and hold yourself accountable to Firm standards
- Contribute to the delivery of an international portfolio of projects and business as usual work to deliver ongoing compliance with the Firmwide and Regulatory Data Quality standards.
- Understanding the Firmwide Global Data Quality Policy and its application within Finance, identifying any potential gaps to policy compliance and establish solutions with guidance from management
- Working with global colleagues to build and document internal processes and controls, identifying opportunities for ongoing improvement.
- Partner with IT and Finance colleagues to identify authoritative sources and internal ownership for data.
- Analysing and interpreting datasets in Excel, summarising and presenting findings to management.
- Contribute to the preparation of high quality materials for multiple internal forums as well as for internal senior management.
What you'll bring to the role:
- Working knowledge of Finance functional area, industry and competitive environment
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, and adapt to various audiences
- Willingness to seek guidance and provide feedback to further develop self and peers
- Self-motivated with the ability to work consistently and efficiently to achieve goals either as an individual or as part of a team.
- Experience of interpreting, summarising and presenting results in a meaningful format.
- Excellent communication skills (both oral and written) and ability to engage with colleagues/clients of all levels.
- Highly numerate with an attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong Microsoft application skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Strong Excel skills.
- Accounting background and knowledge of Financial Statements; qualified or part-qualified accountant is a plus.
- Understanding and experience of data governance concepts is a plus.
- Experience within the Financial Services Industry is a plus.
- At least 3 years' relevant experience would generally be expected to find the skills required for this role
