About the Role

Our Audit of Tax (AoT) practice sits at the intersection of tax technical expertise and audit quality. As a Senior Manager within our Audit of Tax Specialist (ATS) Network, you will lead and oversee the delivery of complex audits of tax for some of the UK’s largest and most internationally diverse businesses. Your portfolio will be centred on AoT work (50–100% of your time), with the opportunity to develop a complementary tax advisory portfolio, particularly in tax accounting, where the technical fit with AoT is a natural extension of the specialism.

You will work alongside experienced Directors and Partners across our national ATS network, playing a key role in shaping best practice, driving technical training, and contributing to the strategic growth of the specialism within the firm.

We offer a clear career path through to Director, with a potential pathway to Partner, supported by strong investment in coaching and professional development at every level.

Our National Tax Accounting practice is expanding to meet increasing demand for tax accounting advisory services due to deal growth and heightened regulatory pressures. We provide complex tax accounting advice and tax provision preparation to a diverse client base, ranging from FTSE 100 companies to mid-tier businesses across various industries. As a Senior Manager, you will be a key driver of this growth, contributing to client proposals, fostering strong client relationships, and helping build one of the firm’s priority businesses.

We seek to attract the best people from a diverse talent pool and encourage a culture where people can be themselves and be valued for their strengths. This is what makes us a strong organisation with an increasingly agile workforce, which is why we have introduced the ‘Deal’ – including an ‘Empowered day’ (more freedom around working pattern), hybrid working (with 40–60% of time expected co-located with colleagues in office or client sites), and summer working hours (a reduced working day on a Friday in July and August with hours condensed into the rest of the week).

What your days will look like:

  • As a Senior Manager, you will be responsible for building close relationships with a wide range of clients and working as part of a team to deliver the firm’s audit of tax and tax accounting services. You will have a key role in shaping your accounts and leading teams to deliver high-quality, technically rigorous work.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Leading and overseeing teams to deliver complex audits of tax, liaising with internal specialists, clients and client tax advisors, and the core audit team as required

  • Managing a client portfolio of audit of tax work, liaising internally with technical specialists and externally with client teams, and reporting to the local and wider Partner/Director group

  • Taking ownership of detailed, high-quality audit documentation, ensuring compliance with audit methodologies and documentation standards

  • You will be able to put into practice your tax technical skills in a stimulating and challenging environment, working alongside a group of specialists with a pool of Managers and other staff to support you. There will also be opportunities to develop deeper knowledge in particular areas of interest such as international structuring, tax accounting, or certain industry sectors.

The role will be both varied and challenging and will provide significant opportunities to develop your career. As a Senior Manager you will have the opportunity to work with and learn from Partners on your client teams, including some of the best known practitioners in their fields.

  • Evaluating a broad range of audit issues, including tax risks associated with international supply chains, finance structures, the impact of changing tax rules, major corporate transactions, and appropriately accounting for tax uncertainties

  • Advising on the tax aspects of GAAP transitions (e.g. to IFRS or US GAAP), the tax accounting aspects of acquisitions and disposals, and the tax elements of adopting new standards

  • Advising on deferred tax asset recoverability, and reviewing clients’ tax accounting methodology and approach, providing best practice advice

  • Assisting with the tax accounting for carve-out financial statements and tax accounting preparation work under US GAAP

  • Driving business development activity, contributing to proposals, and identifying opportunities to expand the firm’s audit of tax and tax accounting services

  • Playing a leading role in the technical and personal development of the local or regional tax team, managing, coaching and delegating effectively to junior team members

  • Promoting best practice in audit of tax risk and quality across the ATS network

  • Working with experienced Directors and Partners across our national network, contributing to the strategic direction of the specialism

The Role is for you if:

  • You must have a UK professional qualification (eg ACA, CTA, solicitor) or overseas equivalent.

  • You have gained significant international and UK corporate tax advisory experience working on complex transactions. Ideally you will also have experience of tax reporting or tax accounting.

  • You will need strong analytical skills and a flexible approach, combined with the ability to work as part of a number of client teams simultaneously.

  • You will have experience of developing and maintaining strong relationships with clients and internal stakeholders.

  • You will have experience of project managing and delegating work within a team context.

  • You will have a focus on self-development and on the development of those working with you.
