Context

SYSTRA’s Acoustics & Vibrations (A&V) Engineering and Expertise Network brings together around twenty professionals based across several countries. We are involved in numerous major international transport infrastructure projects, including metros, high-speed rail lines, and other large-scale systems, as well as complex building projects.

Our services are delivered throughout the various phases of infrastructure and system design, and also during construction, validation, commissioning, and monitoring during operation and maintenance. We provide specialized technical support to Design teams working alongside Design & Build contractors, as well as directly to end clients in roles such as concept design development, assistant to the owner, and project management consultant.

Missions/Main Duties

The purpose of this new position is primarily to strengthen the technical management and expertise capabilities of SYSTRA in Acoustics & Vibration, in the context of transport infrastructure and systems design and construction projects, on-going in the UK and in a wider context.

Key Responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and leading A&V assignments within the framework of major projects in the UK and in various other countries in liaison with (remote) production sites e.g. SYSTRA France A&V team.
  • Typical assignments are:
    • airborne noise and ground borne noise and vibration impact assessment (rail operations and/or during construction),
    • acoustic design of stations, complex buildings, tunnel portal buildings, tunnel shafts with mechanized ventilation fans, including: i) control of noise and vibration from Mechanical and Electrical equipment (noise assessment and mitigation design and integration), ii) control of acoustic comfort in public areas of stations, iii) acoustic design of staff rooms, offices and technical rooms and corridors, iv) control of sound insulation of partitions i.e. walls, doors, traps, floors, building façade elements, etc.
  • Managing relationships with clients, both internal and external,
  • Managing the technical interfaces and risks inherent to the Acoustic & Vibration mitigation design features in liaison with the work package managers and other interfacing disciplines leads e.g., Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing Design (MEP) team lead;
  • Participating in the delivery of studies, including modelling, expert analyses, technical reviews, specification drafting, and related activities;
  • Anticipating and managing the resources required for project execution, ensuring a consistent and realistic workload plan;
  • Managing any subcontracting agreements where applicable;
  • Preparing responses to tenders, including cost estimation and methodology development;
  • Interfacing with the A&V Group Competence Network Lead, based in France, to develop winning bids and manage production delivery on major international projects (where relevant);
  • In the longer term, contributing to the recruitment of future team members in the UK and supervising production teams, including A&V assessment and design engineers

Profile/Skills

  • Demonstrable Noise and Vibration experience, ideally gained within Rail, Highways or similar projects
  • Experience in supporting infrastructure projects with Noise and Vibration
  • Strong ability to work autonomously in a demanding and complex environment, involving international clients, multi-site production, and numerous stakeholders and technical interfaces;
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a service-oriented mindset;
  • Sound judgment, team spirit, and leadership.
